Obiettivi formativi
L'insegnamento intende offrire un'introduzione critica ai problemi esegetici della lingua e della letteratura greca; in particolare, intende fornire le conoscenze e le indicazioni metodologiche necessarie per leggere e interpretare criticamente testi appartenenti ai diversi generi letterari del patrimonio greco classico dalle origini al IV secolo.
Concentrandosi in particolare sull’oratoria giudiziaria classica, studenti e studentesse acquisiranno la capacità di accostarsi in modo critico a testi esemplari della letteratura dedicati all'argomento, applicando, a ciascuna delle opere prese in esame, l'opportuna metodologia analitica, inquadrando il testo storicamente e nella sua appartenenza al genere letterario di riferimento, studiandone le fonti e la tecnica di produzione, la destinazione di pubblico e la fortuna, e presentando i risultati dello studio con padronanza espositiva e un'adeguata terminologia tecnica
The course aims to offer a critical introduction to the exegetical problems of Greek language and literature; in particular, itintends to provide the knowledge and methodological indications necessary to critically read and interpret texts belonging to the various literary genres of the classical Greek heritage from the origins to the 4th century.
Focusing in particular on classical judicial oratory, students will acquire the ability to critically approach exemplary texts from literature devoted to the subject, applying the appropriate analytical methodology to each of the works examined, framing the text historically and in its belonging to the literary genre of reference, studying its sources and production technique, its audience and fortune, and presenting the results of the study with expository mastery and adequate technical terminology.

Al termine dell'insegnamento si dovrà dimostrare di:
conoscere i lineamenti fondamentali della letteratura greca antica, sapendosi orientare nella vastità e varietà delle opere letterarie, con particolare riguardo al periodo arcaico e classico (fino al IV sec. a.C.), anche attraverso una lettura antologica in italiano dei testi;
saper comprendere e analizzare criticamente i testi presentati a lezione, inquadrandoli storicamente e nella loro appartenenza ai generi letterari, presentandone le fonti e la tecnica di produzione, delineandone la destinazione di pubblico e la fortuna;
saper tradurre e commentare dal punto di vista morfo-sintattico testi analoghi a quelli presentati a lezione
essere in grado di valutare con autonomia di giudizio i caratteri dei testi letterari greci anche sulla base della lettura individuale di alcuni studi di riferimento (anche in lingua straniera);
saper ricreare una traduzione dei testi greci presentati a lezione; saper esporre oralmente i risultati dello studio con efficacia e correttezza terminologica.

At the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate that they
- know the fundamental outlines of ancient Greek literature, being able to orient themselves in the vastness and variety of literary works, with particular regard to the archaic and classical period (up to the 4th century B.C.), also through an anthological reading in Italian of the texts;
- being able to understand and critically analyse the texts presented in class, framing them historically and in their belonging to literary genres, presenting their sources and production technique, outlining their intended audience and fortune;
- be able to translate and comment on texts similar to those presented in class from a morpho-syntactic point of view
-be able to independently assess the characters of Greek literary texts also on the basis of individual reading of some reference studies (also in foreign languages);
-be able to recreate a translation of the Greek texts presented in class; be able to present orally the results of the study with effectiveness and correct terminology.
-having developed the ability to carry out personal in-depth studies on Greek literature, developing the knowledge and skills acquired.

Lezioni frontali e momenti di discussione seminariale dei testi, della durata di 36 ore complessive (6 CFU). La frequenza è vivamente consigliata.
Chi non potesse frequentare è pregato di prendere contatto con la docente; il programma per non frequentanti potrà essere o del tutto simile a quello per frequentanti, con alcune letture critiche che sostituiscano il lavoro svolto in aula sui testi, o anche concordato su altri argomenti in presenza di eventuali interessi specifici
Lectures will alternate with seminar discussions of texts, lasting a total of 36 hours (6 CFU). Attendance is strongly recommended.
Those who are unable to attend are asked to contact the lecturer; the programme for non-attending students may be either entirely similar to that for attending students, with some critical readings to replace the work done in the classroom on the texts, or also agreed on other topics in the presence of any specific interests

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Conoscenze e capacità previste saranno verificate mediante un esonero preliminare (comune al mod. 2) superato almeno con la sufficienza (18/30; durata della prova tre ore, dizionario di greco consentito, voto in trentesimi), che prevede la traduzione di un testo di media difficoltà con quesiti morfosintattici sul modello di analisi proposto durante l'insegnamento. Il voto non entra nella media dell'esame orale, ma è necessaria la sufficienza nella prova scritta per accedere all'orale stesso.
ll colloquio orale prevede: almeno due domande a partire dal testo e dai saggi critici presentati a lezione (traduzione e analisi; contestualizzazione linguistica e storico-letteraria, interpretazioni della critica moderna). Il colloquio prevede inoltre almeno una domanda sui principali autori della storia della letteratura greca dalle origini al IV sec. a.C. (parte comune ai mod. 1 e mod. 2 di Letteratura greca A; (un elenco indicativo di autori sarà inserito nel Materiale didattico e su Moodle e illustrato a lezione).
La preparazione sarà considerata adeguata (con votazione espressa in trentesimi) se si dimostrerà: buona conoscenza degli argomenti e dei testi trattati a lezione e delle letture critiche presentate; capacità di esporre in modo accurato e approfondito i contenuti appresi, con padronanza terminologica e tecnica; capacità di rielaborare in modo articolato e con logica personale i contenuti dell'insegnamento.
Chi inizia ora il percorso di conoscenza del greco antico curriculum classico presenterà i contenuti del corso e le letture integrative e sostitutive concordate con la docente nella sola sede del colloquio orale; l’esame di Letteratura greca A non potrà comunque essere completato (mod. 1 e mod. 2) prima di aver superato una prova di traduzione di un semplice testo greco al termine del Seminario di greco 0.
The knowledge and skills required will be tested by means of a preliminary exoneration (common to Mod. 2) passed with at least a sufficiency (18/30; duration of the test three hours, Greek dictionary allowed, grade in thirtieths), which involves the translation of a text of medium difficulty with morphosyntactic questions on the model of analysis proposed during the course. The grade does not count towards the average for the oral examination, but a sufficiency in the written test is required for admission to the oral examination.
The oral interview includes at least two questions based on the text and critical essays presented in class (translation and analysis; linguistic and literary-historical contextualisation, interpretations of modern criticism). The interview also includes at least one question on the main authors in the history of Greek literature from the origins to the 4th century B.C. (part common to Mod. 1 and Mod. 2 of Greek Literature A; an indicative list of authors will be included in the Teaching Materials and Moodle and illustrated in class)
Preparation will be considered adequate (with a grade expressed in thirtieths) if students demonstrate good knowledge of the topics and texts covered in class and the critical readings presented; ability to expound accurately and thoroughly the contents learned, with mastery of terminology and technique; ability to rework the teaching content in an articulate manner and with personal logic.
Students who are now beginning their knowledge of ancient Greek (curriculum Classics ) will present the course content and the supplementary and substitute readings agreed with the lecturer only at the oral interview. The Greek Literature A examination may not, however, be completed (mod. 1 and mod. 2) before passing a translation test of a simple Greek text at the end of Greek Seminar 0.

Li hai cacciati dalla loro casa, i figli di tua figlia, con quattro stracci addosso! (Lys. or. 32, 16)
L’orazione 32 del corpus lisiano, Contro Diogitone, è un veemente discorso contro un uomo accusato di aver derubato i suoi giovani nipoti (di cui si trova a esser contemporaneamente nonno e zio). L’orazione fu particolarmente apprezzata nell'antichità come discorso giudiziario esemplare (come mostra Dionigi di Alicarnasso nel suo saggio su Lisia, D.H. Lys. 21-27): essa restituisce un ritratto vivido della disonestà e malvagità dell'imputato, caratteri colti soprattutto attraverso il racconto delle sofferenze da lui inferte alle sue vittime (e parenti stretti), figlia e nipoti. La sua narratio mostra l’arte di Lisia in maniera esemplare.
L'insegnamento include quanto svolto a lezione: una introduzione alla comunicazione letteraria in prosa, con particolare riguardo all’oratoria giudiziaria; un approfondimento di sintassi e pragmatica della lingua greca classica, a partire dalla traduzione della Contro Diogitone (il testo sarà tradotto insieme a lezione e dovrà esser portato integralmente all'esame), con lo studio dei suoi aspetti peculiari e relativi problemi di traduzione (valori aspettuali, grado temporale, strutture sintattiche e connettivi testuali peculiari).
And you thought fit to turn these, the children of your daughter, out of their own house, in worn-out clothes! (Lys. or. 32, 16)
Oration 32 of the Lysias’ corpus, Against Diogeiton, is a vehement speech against a man accused of robbing his young nephews (he is simultaneously their grandfather and their uncle). The oration was particularly prized in antiquity as an exemplary judicial discourse (as Dionysius of Halicarnassus shows in his essay on Lysias, D.H. Lys. 21-27): it renders a vivid portrait of the dishonesty and wickedness of the accused, characters captured above all through the account of the suffering he inflicted on his victims (and close relatives), daughter and nephews. In fact, the narrative shows Lysias at his best.
The teaching includes the following: an introduction to literary communication in prose, with particular regard to judicial oratory; an in-depth study of the syntax and pragmatics of the classical Greek language, starting with the translation of the Against Diogeiton (the text will be translated together with the lecture and must be brought to the examination in its entirety), with the study of its peculiar aspects and related translation problems (aspectual values, temporal degree, peculiar syntactic structures and textual connectives).
