Tito Flavio Vespasiano, secondo imperatore della dinastia flavia, è tornato alla ribalta da quando gli è stato accostato, a torto o a ragione, il nome di Barack Obama al suo ingresso alla Casa Bianca («Barack Obama is the modern incarnation of the Emperor Titus [...] This is Suetonius: "Titus, had such winning ways - perhaps inborn, perhaps cultivated subsequently, or conferred on him by fortune - that he became an object of universal love and adoration». Natalie Haynes, The Times, 20 gennaio 2009). Il corso si propone di illustrare ed esaminare, attraverso una lettura critica delle fonti, gli aspetti noti e meno noti della sua personalità e i grandi eventi che segnarono il suo principato.
Titus Flavius Vespasian, the second emperor of the Flavian dynasty, is back in the limelight when his name was approached, rightly or wrongly, the name of Barack Obama at the entrance to the White House («Barack Obama is the modern incarnation of the Emperor Titus [...]. This is Suetonius: Titus had such winning ways - perhaps inborn, perhaps cultivated subsequently, or conferred on him by fortune - that he became an object of universal love and adoration». The course aims to illustrate and examine, through a critical reading of the sources, known and unknown aspects of his personality and the major events that marked his reign.

Personalità ed educazione di Tito. Tito in Oriente: la guerra giudaica (66-70 d.C.). Relazioni con Vespasiano, Muciano, Berenice, Domiziano. Tito imperatore: politica interna ed estera. 79 d.C.: la distruzione di Pompei, Ercolano e Stabia. Morte ed apoteosi.
La lezione sulla catastrofica eruzione del Vesuvio verrà svolta con la collaborazione di un vulcanologo e di un archeologo; al termine del corso verrà visionato il documentario Pompei. Cronaca di una fine (2008).
Personality and education of Titus. Titus in the East: the Jewish War (66-70 AD). Relations with Vespasian, Mucianus, Berenice, Domitian. Emperor Titus: domestic and foreign policy. AD 79: the destruction of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabia. Death and apotheosis.

- Il modulo è aperto agli studenti di tutti i corsi di laurea. Per essere ammessi all'esame finale occorre aver superato l'esame di un qualunque modulo 1 di Storia romana.
- Gli studenti che devono acquisire 5 CFU escludano il saggio indicato al punto 3 della bibliografia.
- Gli studenti che devono acquisire 12 CFU possono maturarli sommando il modulo 1 al modulo 2.
- The module is open to students of all degree courses. To be eligible for the final exam they must have passed any examination of Roman History, module 1.
- Students must acquire 5 CFU exclude the essay shown in paragraph 3 of the bibliography.
- Students must acquire 12 CFU can accrue by combining the module 1 to the module 2.
