Obiettivi formativi
Il corso è un’introduzione ai più significativi poeti americani dal primo Ottocento ai giorni nostri. I relativi testi poetici saranno analizzati considerando le varie possibili interpretazioni e sottolineando i peculiari aspetti culturali ed estetici.
This course will introduce students to works by some of the most important American poets from the early Nineteenth century to the present. The poems will be analyzed with emphasis on various possible interpretations and on their particular formal aspects and cultural significance.

Through classroom analysis of the poems and their reading of critical essays, students will have perfected their skills in appreciating and interpreting poetry.

I testi poetici analizzati in classe con attiva partecipazione degli studenti saranno ulteriormente approfonditi dagli studenti tramite la lettura di saggi critici forniti dalla docente.
Il programma prevede anche che ogni studente prepari autonomamente l’analisi di altre cinque poesie e che anche esse saranno oggetto dell’esame finale.
Le lezioni saranno integrate da ascolto di registrazioni sonore e da videoproiezioni.

In addition to active participation in classroom discussions, students will deepen their understanding of the poems on the syllabus through their reading of critical essays provided by the professor. Students will also analyze five additonal poems independently and these poems will be included in their final exam.
Lessons will be conducted with the use of audiovisual aids.

Il corso, destinato agli studenti del Corso di Laurea in Lettere e del Corso di Laurea in Culture e Letterature del Mondo Moderno, sarà svolto in inglese. La frequenza è obbligatoria. La prova orale finale può essere sostenuta in inglese o in italiano.
This is an undergraduate course given in English with an obligatory attendance policy and a final oral exam which can be taken in English or in Italian.
