Obiettivi formativi
Il modulo intende approfondire un aspetto particolare del linguaggio: la sua parziale indeterminatezza, nelle varie possibili forme.
Si affronteranno tematiche generali rispetto a questi fenomeni e si analizzeranno esempi specifici, sulla base di dati reali.
Indeterminacy of language and the role of context
The course deals with a specific aspect of language: partial indeterminacy in its various forms.
Theoretical facets of this phenomenon will be dealt with, and specific examples, based on real data, will be analyzed.

Verranno presentate in generale posizioni positive e negative rispetto all’indeterminatezza in generale, nelle diverse forme in cui può realizzarsi.
Verrà quindi discusso il ruolo del contesto nell’interpretazione di usi specifici, sulla base di dati reali tratti da tipi di testo eterogenei sia rispetto al mezzo di comunicazione (parlato, scritto, nuove tecnologie) che al registro formale/informale.
Per i frequentanti l'esame orale riguarderà:
- il programma svolto a lezione,
- un testo a scelta da un elenco che verrà indicato successivamente; o, in alternativa, una relazione orale presentata in classe dallo studente/essa.
Per i non frequentanti, l'esame consisterà in un esame orale relativo a due testi scelti all’interno di un elenco che verrà pubblicato in seguito.
Per gli studenti degli a.a. precedenti per cui il corso vale 5 CFU il programma sarà ridotto in misura proporzionale (indicazioni specifiche verranno date durante il corso).
The positive and negative aspects and general facets of this phenomenon will be presented.
Subsequently, the role of context in the interpretation of specific uses will be discussed on the basis of real data taken from texts which are heterogeneous both with regard to the communication channel (i.e. spoken, written, or computer-mediated), and to the formal/informal key.
For students who attend the course, the exam will concern both:
- the content of the lectures
- a text to be defined subsequently; or, alternatively, an oral paper to be presented in the classroom by the student him/herself.
For those who did not attend the lectures, the oral exam will concern two texts selected from a list which will be published later on.
With regard to students whose course corresponds to 5 CFU, the program will be reduced proportionally (the reduction will be specified during the course).

Il corso è rivolto in modo specifico agli studenti del corso di laurea in Filosofia.
Per iscriversi a questo modulo è necessario aver frequentato il primo modulo di Linguistica (Introduzione alla linguistica in prospettiva pragmatica), e/o aver sostenuto l’esame relativo.
Il modulo è iterabile; gli studenti devono concordare il programma con la docente durante l'orario di ricevimento.
Indeterminacy of language and the role of context
The course is mainly for students of the corso di laurea in Filosofia.
In order to be enrolled, students must have attended the first module of Linguistica (Introduzione alla linguistica in prospettiva pragmatica), and/or have passed the related exam.
Students are allowed to take the course more than once; they are requested to agree on a specific program with the teacher during tutoring hours.
