CONOSCENZA E CAPACITÀ DI COMPRENSIONE: gli studenti sapranno collocare le principali lingue semitiche nel tempo e nello spazio; conosceranno i vari targum palestinesi e babilonesi e le tecniche di traduzione e ampliamento midrashico dei testi biblici che li caratterizzano
CAPACITÀ DI APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE, AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO e ABILITÀ COMUNICATIVE: sapranno leggere e analizzare i testi in aramaico giudaico palestinese letti a lezione; nell’analisi e commento dei testi, faranno uso degli strumenti critici e bibliografici presentati a lezione
CAPACITÀ DI APPRENDIMENTO: sapranno utilizzare alcuni strumenti bibliografici (manuali, dizionari, grammatiche ed enciclopedie) sulle lingue semitiche, i targum e l’aramaico giudaico palestinese
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: students will gain a general knowledge of the Semitic family, the sub-grouping of the Semitic languages and their distribution in time and space; they will know the various Palestinian and Babylonian targums and their translation techniques
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, MAKING JUDGEMENTS and COMMUNICATION SKILLS: students will be able to read and analyse the texts presented during the course; they will use the critical notions and the bibliographical tools, presented in the course, in the analysis of and commentary on the texts
LEARNING SKILLS: students will familiarize with bibliographic tools (handbooks, dcitionaries, grammars and reference works) on the Semitic languages, the targums and Jewish Palestinian Aramaic

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
La verifica dell'apprendimento avverrà attraverso un breve colloquio.
L'esame consisterà in una domanda sulla distribuzione storica e geografica di una lingua semitica e nella lettura, traduzione, commento grammaticale e contestualizzazione storico-letteraria di uno dei testi su Caino e Abele letti a lezione.
L'esame può essere sostenuto in lingua inglese.
The exam is in oral form, can be taken in English and consists in presenting the historical and geographical distribution of a Semitic language and in reading and commenting upon a few lines of one of the Jewish Palestinian Aramaic texts on Cain and Abel that have been presented during the course.

Distribuzione storica e geografica delle lingue semitiche, con particolare attenzione per il complesso aramaico.
Introduzione al targum: varie tradizioni (Qumran, Genizah del Cairo, tradizioni manoscritte), cenni di storia degli studi sulla lingua dei targum, tecniche di traduzione del testo biblico, ampliamenti midrashici.
Introduzione allo studio dell’aramaico giudaico palestinese: tratti fonologici, morfologici e sintattici; lettura, analisi linguistica e traduzione di alcuni testi targumici di origine palestinese su Caino e Abele.
Historical and geographical distribution of the Semitic languages, with focus on the Aramaic group.
Introduction to the Targum: various traditions (Qumran, Cairo Genizah, manuscripts), brief overview of the literature on the language(s) of the targums, translation technique of the Bible, midrashic expansions.
Introduction to the study of Jewish Palestinian Aramaic: phonology, morphology and syntax; reading, linguistic and literary analysis of passages on Cain and Abel from the Palestinian targums.

Gli studenti di qualsiasi corso di laurea triennale o magistrale che intendono inserire Filologia semitica nel loro piano carriera possono scegliere tra questo corso proposto per la triennale, di carattere introduttivo e contenuto filologico-letterario (novembre-dicembre 2014, con probabile orario lu-ma-me 12:00-14:00) oppure il corso proposto per la magistrale (vedi sito del cds di Scienze linguistiche) e di contenuto linguistico-grammaticale (settembre-ottobre 2014, con probabile orario gio-ve 13:00-15:30; la morfologia non concatenativa delle lingue semitiche, derivazione e morfologia basata su radici e forme), a seconda dei loro interessi.
Saranno organizzati seminari o lezioni in comune con Letteratura araba (prof.ssa F. Bellino) sulla fortuna delle tradizioni giudaiche su Caino e Abele nella cultura islamica.
Non è richiesta alcuna conoscenza pregressa di lingue semitiche.
Students of any (bachelor or master) program are free to choose this course (Introduction to the Semitic languages; scheduled in November-December 2014, probably on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 12:00-14:00) or the course Semitic Linguistics (September-October 2014, probably on Thursday and Friday, 13:00-15:30; see the web-site of Scienze linguistiche; non concatenative word-pattern morphology, derivation and word formation in the Semitic languages), in line with their backgrounds and interests.
In cooperation with the courses in Arabic literature of dr. F. Bellino, a workshop and a seires of lectures will be organized on the fortune of the Jewish traditions on Cain and Abel in Islamic culture.
No previous knowledge of Semitic languages is required.
