Al termine del corso, gli studenti:- sapranno collocare le principali lingue semitiche nel tempo e nello spazio, descrivendo il tipo di documentazione disponibile- conosceranno i meccanismi soggiacenti alle forme di scrittura ideografica, logografica, sillabografica e alfabetica- sapranno leggere e analizzare i brevi testi in aramaico moderno letto a lezione, confrontando le strutture grammaticali e il lessico con un’altra lingua semitica o indoeuropea e contestualizzandoli nella storia della letteratura siriaca e aramaica modernaL'esame consisterà in una domanda sulla distribuzione storica e geografica di una lingua semitica e nella lettura, traduzione, commento grammaticale e contestualizzazione storico-letteraria di un testo aramaico moderno letto a lezione.L'esame può essere sostenuto in lingua inglese.
As main learning outcomes of the course, students are expected:- to gain a general knowledge of the Semitic family, its distribution in time and space as well as to know the forms (oral, literary, epigraphic…) in which the various languages are documented- to know the systems underlying ideographic, logographic, syllabographic and alphabetic scripts- to be able to read and analyze the Modern Aramaic texts presented during the course, comparing grammatical structures and vocabulary to those of another Semitic or Indo-European language and to contextualize form and content of the text in the history of Syriac and Modern Aramaic literaturesThe exam will consist of a question about the historical geographical distribution of a Semitic language and reading, translation, grammatical and literary comment of a Modern Aramaic text read during the course.The exam can be taken in English.

Distribuzione storica e geografica delle lingue semitiche, con particolare attenzione per quelle moderne e per il complesso aramaico:- semitico orientale- semitico nord-occidentale: cananeo, ugaritico, cananaico, aramaico- lingue semitiche nord-occidentali in età antica, medievale e moderna: ebraico e aramaico - classificazione delle varietà di aramaico- l’aramaico moderno e le sue varietà letterarieCenni di storia dell'alfabeto:- sistemi di scrittura: dal cuneiforme alla scrittura alfabetica consonantica- l’alfabeto siriaco e le sue varietàLettura di brevi testi aramaici moderni su mirabilia connessi con la figura di Alessandro Magno:- cenni di letteratura siriaca classica e aramaica moderna- tratti fonologici, morfologici e sintattici dell'aramaico moderno (a partire dai testi letti)- traslitterazione, analisi linguistica e traduzione dei testi - il genere letterario dei mirabilia in arabo

Non è richiesta alcuna conoscenza pregressa di lingue semitiche, di linguistica generale, epigrafia o storia del Vicino Oriente. Sarà proposta la lettura di due/tre articoli in lingua inglese.Sarà organizzato un seminario interdisciplinare con Letteratura araba sulla figura di Alessandro in varie tradizioni letterarie dell’area mediterranea.Gli studenti non frequentanti concorderanno un programma con il docente (alessandro.mengozzi@unito.it).Gli studenti che devono acquisire 9 CFU leggeranno, oltre al programma del corso o quello concordato da non frequentanti: A. No previous knowledge of a Semitic language, general linguistics, Semitic epigraphy or history of the Near East is required. The bibliography includes two/three papers in English.In cooperation with the course of Arabic Literature, an interdisciplinary workshop will be organized on the figure of Alexander in various Mediterranean literatures.Students who cannot attend classes will prepare for the exam a substitutive program of readings (contact alessandro.mengozzi@unito.it).Students who need 9 credits will prepare for the exam the course program or the substitutive program of readings + the two following papers: A.
